Accurate brickwork calculation is essential for every construction project. Order too many bricks and you waste money. Order too few and your site stops. This guide gives you the exact formulas for Indian standard bricks.

Indian Standard Brick Sizes

TypeSize (mm)Size with Mortar (mm)
Standard (Modular)190 × 90 × 90200 × 100 × 100
Traditional230 × 115 × 75240 × 125 × 85

Bricks Per Square Meter

Wall TypeThicknessBricks/m² (Modular)Bricks/m² (Traditional)
Half Brick Wall4.5 inch (115mm)5055
Full Brick Wall9 inch (230mm)100110

Step-by-Step Calculation

  1. Calculate wall area: Length × Height (in meters)
  2. Subtract openings: Doors (2.1m × 0.9m each) + Windows (1.2m × 1.2m each)
  3. Multiply by bricks/m²: Net area × 55 (half-brick) or 110 (full-brick)
  4. Add wastage: Add 5-10% for breakage and cutting

Example: Full Brick Wall

Wall: 10m long × 3m high, with 1 door (2.1m × 0.9m) and 2 windows (1.2m × 1.2m each)

Wall area = 10 × 3 = 30 m² Door = 2.1 × 0.9 = 1.89 m² Windows = 2 × (1.2 × 1.2) = 2.88 m² Net area = 30 - 1.89 - 2.88 = 25.23 m² Bricks = 25.23 × 110 = 2,775 bricks With 10% wastage = 2,775 × 1.10 = 3,053 bricks
